Brewery HOOP (Lagedijk 69‑73, 1544 BC Zaandijk) is a craft brewery and restaurant nestled alongside the historic Zaan River, directly across from the famous windmills. Opened in May 2016, it’s the only dedicated brewery in the Zaan region, producing full-strength, character-filled beers inspired by local history. Visitors can enjoy tastings, a casual brewpub meal, and shop for locally brewed beer to take home.
Founded by lifelong Zaan friends Paul Riteco and Steven de Cleen, Brewery HOOP is rooted in local heritage and modern craft beer values. Using a custom-built Caspary brewing system, the brewery churns out around 8,500 hl annually with 16 fermentation and lager tanks of various sizes.
Their beers—such as Grunt, Hop-On, and seasonal releases—carry unique names and labels that reference Zaandijk’s history, with the anchor logo symbolizing hope. The brewery is known for high consistency and collaborative spirit (sharing expertise with Ireland's Hope Brewery, among others).
The on-site tasting room serves multiple freshly brewed HOOP beers alongside a menu of classic bar snacks and small plates. There's also a shop stocked with their beers and selections from peer craft breweries. Public tours and tastings are available to show the brewing process up close.
