Emotional Support for Women Navigating Fertility and Motherhood in Amsterdam

At Amsterdam Kids, we often focus on life with children. But for many women, the journey to motherhood starts long before that stage and is rarely straightforward. Fertility challenges, IVF, or pregnancy after infertility can be emotionally demanding, and for internationals living in Amsterdam, these experiences are often shaped by unfamiliar healthcare systems, language barriers, and distance from family support.

One woman working to address this gap is Rafaella Elias, founder of Little Miracle Creations. An IVF mother of two, Rafaella understands first-hand how fertility treatment often prioritises the physical process, while the emotional impact is addressed far less. Although her story ends in motherhood, she speaks openly about how isolating the journey can feel, particularly when emotional support is limited.

Creating Space for Emotional Wellbeing

Rafaella created Little Miracle Creations after recognising how many women struggle silently during fertility treatment and early motherhood. While medical care focuses on protocols and outcomes, the emotional experience of uncertainty, loss, hope, and waiting often has little space.

Drawing on her background in health science and her long-term personal experience with neuro emotional integrative therapy, Rafaella supports women in staying emotionally grounded throughout fertility and early motherhood. Her work focuses on nurturing hope, processing complex emotions, and helping women feel seen as whole people rather than patients moving through a system.

Connecting International Women in the Netherlands

In addition to written resources, Rafaella identified a strong need for emotional connection among international women in the Netherlands. Many women shared that they were looking for support in English and a space where experiences of infertility, IVF, donor conception, or pregnancy after infertility could be discussed openly.

To meet this need, Rafaella created Little Miracle Journeys, a WhatsApp community for women and couples navigating fertility and early motherhood in the Netherlands. The group provides a safe, welcoming environment for sharing experiences and emotional challenges. Rafaella facilitates the conversations and occasionally invites professionals to join online discussions, with the long-term aim of hosting in-person meetups as the community grows.

A Note from Amsterdam Kids

At Amsterdam Kids, we aim to highlight not only activities and places for families, but also meaningful resources that support parents and parents-to-be living in the Netherlands.

Motherhood takes many forms, and access to understanding, connection, and emotional support can make a real difference along the way.
